Glass Insert Molding with In-mold Decoration
With our Glass Insert Molding with In-mold Decoration (GIM) technology, trimmed glass is adjoined to the mold cavity and pre-melted thermoplastic is filled around the glass, preventing the formation of gaps or protrusions between glass and plastic. GIM technology is used in products where such gaps or protrusions are unacceptable.
In a smartphone, for example, this allows for both a flat, seamless form without gaps or protrusions between the glass and bezel, and, by minimizing the area of adhesion between glass and bezel, for bigger screens in smaller phones. GIM technology is also used in banknote identification mechanisms in ATMs, where a gap or protrusions between the glass and bezel could lead to the accumulation of dust and jammed banknotes.
